Guild training is highly regarded by the people who attend it. People who come to our courses consistently give them high ratings. But the ratings that we care about are those we get later, when our students go back to work and use what they have learnt. Our management seminars use real-world techniques to deal with real-world problems: measurement and estimating, project leadership, strategic planning, tools selection and introduction, management overviews of methods. Our practitioners' workshops teach the practical, useful skills that have a single purpose: to make you better at your job. Your instructor will be the Guild principal who has written the course: we do not have junior announcers who learn the course from a book. Your principal will be an acknowledged expert in the field with years of experience applying the technology to real-world projects.
Guild consulting has made the crucial difference to many projects, in many counties. Your Guild consultant has done what your project is setting out to do, and brings to your project hands-on experience to augment your project team. Our project experience means that we can probably identify problems before they arise. As outsiders, our fresh viewpoint means that we look at your project in a different way from the project team who are caught up in the day to day pressure of system development. Project Clinics are concentrated workshops, usually involving most of the project team, that are tailored to the requirements of your project. The clinic is a mixture of formal lectures, informal discussions and work sessions. During the clinic, your principal will identify project problems with the team members. He or she will demonstrate how to solve the problems, will answer questions from the team members, and explain the best ways for the project to proceed. A clinic is a hands-on workshop using material from the real project. Project clinics have many uses:
and many others. Each clinic has a specific objective, often producing written output of the outcome. Clinics in the past have produced draft company standards, post mortem reports, work process models, procedures for estimating, context and other analysis models, teaching materials, and so on. There is no real limit to what you can do with a Guild project clinic. A variaion on the project clinic is DeMarco and Lister's Physical Exam for Your Organization Guild conferences, involving all the principals speaking on their own topics, happen once a year when the Guild principals come together to share with you their experience from the front lines of the software industry. You can be part of these events. Make sure you attend the "Cocktails and Questions" session to have your hot topics discussed, or your problems solved. On request, the Guild hosts special conferences requested by clients who want to introduce a new technology into their organization. The 2000 Conference was held in Munich in September. Guild publications have made a significant impact on the IT world. Guild principals are active authors. At any time there will be at least one Guild book in the pipeline. Principals are regular columnists with magazines, are occasional guest editors, and frequently contribute articles to journals and newspapers. |
